It is a delicate time in the United Federation of Planets.
After the removal of Shinzon, Praetor of Romulus, a new senate
has been formed lead by Praetor Donatra, Commander of the
Warbirds that attempted assistance to the U.S.S. Enterprise-E
during the battle with the Reman Scimitar on Stardate 56844.9.
talks have begun between the Federation and the Romulan Senate
to begin the dismantling of Federation and Romulan stations
along the border of the neutral zone; however, the Treaty
of Algeron still remains in effect for the time being, save
one stipulation of good faith. since the Federation lost the
U.S.S. Defiant’s cloaking device during battle with
the Klingons at DS9, another has been granted for direct use
in relation to missions aiding in the success of the peace
talks, should the need arise.
Due to the centuries of animosity between the Romulans and
the Klingons, this new possibility of peace between the Federation
and Romulans has caused a stir in the Klingon High Council.
In fear of a final take over of the Klingon Empire, The Klingon
High Council is currently threatening to dissolve relations
with the Federation should the peace talks continue with the
Romulans. The Federation has determined that the Klingon High
Council is unstable, and not fully recovered from the death
of Gowron. Naming a new chancellor has been a difficult task
due to the two candidates. Many, in secret, questioned the
mandates of Gowron during his rule, one of which was to reinstate
the discommendation of the house of Mogh. After the death
of Gowron, honor was reinstated to the House of Mogh, making
members of that house eligible to attempt claim to the head
of the council. The first contender is Kurn, son of Mogh,
brother of Worf (Federation Ambassador to Kronos). If Kurn
is named, he will most likely attempt peace with both the
Federation and Romulus. The second contender is again Toral,
nephew of the late Lursa of the Duras sisters. Toral, now
much older, has rallied those who would oppose peace with
the Romulans and would most likely instigate war.
The Cardassian Union is slowly rebuilding, though not fast
enough after the assault on their home world by the Founders,
Dominion, and Breen. They are constantly calling for aid to
defend against those that would take advantage of their weakened
state. Through great reluctance, they have applied for Federation
membership and are allowing the construction of one Federation
starbase to orbit Cardassia. The Federation Council is currently
taking the proposal under consideration.
Due to the numerous volatile situations that may arise during
the unknown coming events destined to unfold, the Federation
Council has decided to instate a new special forces team.
Known as the Starfleet Tactical Unit, aboard the Defiant class
starship, U.S.S. Valorous, they are the Federation’s
only hope to insure a smooth transition into this new age.
